The Deutsch DT series connectors are by far the most popular connector used in many automotive, industrial, and Motorsport applications. Available in 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 12-pin configurations, it makes connecting multiple wires together very easy. Deutsch has created the DT line to be weather resistant as well as dustproof, resulting the DT series connectors being rated to IP68, which means the connection will withstand submersion in water up to 3 meters as well as being “Dust Tight” (No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact)
DT connectors come in several color options as well as different modifications. Here are the 2 most common modifications and a brief description of the different colors and what they indicate:
DT Series Modifications
-E004: Black body connectors. Some of the black DT series connectors are keyed to a “B” configuration, this usually applies to the 8 and 12 connectors, these are not interchangeable with the gray DT connectors The 2, 3, 4, and 6-way black connectors remain interchangeable with the standard gray DT connectors.
-E008: This modification adds a nice lip at the rear of the connector to allow the installer to use a piece of heat tubing, usually 3:1 adhesive-lined tubing or a heat-shrinkable boot, to provide an additional layer of weatherproofing as well as additional strain relief.
Different color DT connectors and what they indicate:
- Gray: A Keyway
- Black: B Keyway, with the exception of 2, 3, 4, and 6-way connectors
- Green: C Keyway
- Brown: D Keyway
